In my 42 years as an arts journalist, I have conducted hundreds, maybe thousands of interviews. And I have been interviewed, perhaps, three times or so.
One of these rare events took place last week, when Paul Alirangues of the long-running, weekly “Sunday Ramble” internet radio show got me behind the mike at his North Plainfield studio. You can listen to the approximately two-hour show — “Sunday Ramble, No. 322” — below. It also can be found, along with prior “Sunday Ramble” episodes, at mixcloud.com/homegrownsundayramble.
Alirangues played 13 songs, which I selected, during the show, and we talked about them, as well as some of my most memorable experiences in journalism; some of the the musicians that Alirangues and I both admire (there seems to be a pretty high concordance); protest music; this month’s Light of Day WinterFest, and more. I think it was all fascinating, but then again, I’m prejudiced.
In addition to hosting the “Sunday Ramble” shows, Alirangues runs the “Sunday Ramblers” Facebook group, where I frequently share NJArts.net content, and which I highly recommend joining. You can find it HERE.
Here is my “Sunday Ramble” show, posted today (Jan. 11):
