After having already postponed their 50th anniversary tour from 2020 to 2021, the Doobie Brothers have now postponed some of their dates to 2022. Which means, if they really want to be accurate, they should call it their 51st-52nd anniversary tour.
Their concerts scheduled for the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel and the BB&T Pavilion in Camden will now take place on June 14, 2022, and June 23, 2022, respectively. They also will perform at the Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, N.Y., on June 21, 2022.
Tickets for the original shows at these venues will be honored. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band remains on the tour as the opening act.
The Doobies do have some late summer and early fall 2021 shows remaining on their schedule, starting with Aug. 22 at the Iowa State Fair. But the shows that had been scheduled for earlier in the year have been moved to 2022, as a safety precaution.
The band came together in San Jose in 1970 and released a self-titled album in 1971 before having their first hit single, “Listen to the Music,” in 1972. The anniversary tour will reunite them with Michael McDonald, their lead singer on hits such as “Takin’ It to the Streets,” “What a Fool Believes” and “Real Love” during his 1975-1982 stint with the group.
The Doobie Brothers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year. The band currently includes singer-songwriter-guitarists Patrick Simmons and Michael McDonald and guitarist and violinist John McFee in addition to McDonald and touring members John Cowan (bass), Marc Russo (saxophone), Ed Toth (drums), Bill Payne (keyboards) and Marc Quiñones (percussion).
