Richard Thompson will present a free, outdoor, socially distanced show at Woodbridge High School, as part of the Woodbridge Wednesdays series, July 22 at 7:30 p.m.
(Update: Due to rain, this show has been rescheduled for July 25.)
Thompson, who lives in Montclair, participated in yesterday’s Woodbridge Wednesdays show, playing guitar for Zara Phillips.
The July 22 show takes the place in the series of the Amy Helm concert that has been cancelled.
Bill Brandenburg, who produces the series, posted on Facebook:
“The pandemic has presented many challenges in many different forms.. This date was originally Lindsay Lou and then Amy Helm, both of whom pulled out over concerns related to the pandemic. We will have them both back at some future date.
“I got the call that Amy was pulling out while at our Abbie Gardner/Zara Phillips show on Wednesday. Richard Thompson was part of Zara’s trio and after brief consideration I thought ‘It never hurts to ask.’
“After a brief conversation and a little time to reflect, Richard agreed to fill the slot.
“Words can’t describe the thrill of presenting one of Rolling Stone’s greatest guitarists of all time on our stage in Woodbridge.”
Thompson was No. 69 on Rolling Stone’s 2015 list of the Top 100 guitarists of all time.
