Tenth anniversary party for HomeGrownRadioNJ

Everyone complains about the radio, but very few people are doing anything about it. In New Jersey, one of the beacons of hope is HomeGrownRadioNJ.org, which follows, 24 hours a day, the kind of free-form format that a mainstream station would only play overnights and on weekends, if at all. As I’m listening right now, Matthew Sweet’s “We’re the Same” is seguing into the Band’s “Katie’s Been Gone.” In a press release, the station describes its programming as “from Mozart to Zappa, Scottish to Horror, Bowie to Ellington and beyond.” Included in the “beyond,” I guess, is the local Jersey talent that the station features regularly. ‘Banding Together’ webathon now underway

The Jersey-based Internet radio station, BlowUpRadio.com, organizes an annual webathon to combat spondylitis, and this year’s began this morning. Live performances from scores of Jersey artists will be heard through Monday on BlowUpRadio.com. This is the eighth annual “Banding Together” webathon; previous editions of the event have raised thousands of dollars for the cause. Donors will receive a digital download of songs from many of the bands. Spondylitis is a condition that causes inflammation and fusion in the vertebrae of the spine. Continue Reading →
