ANGELO DEL ROSSI

The late Angelo Del Rossi — “the face of Paper Mill,” in the words of Paper Mill Playhouse producing artistic director Mark S. Hoebee — will be remembered in an Oct. 20 memorial service at the Millburn theater.

His widower, Per Rasmussen, will host the 1 p.m. service, which will feature tributes and performances by Lee Roy Reams, Judy McLane, Leslie Kritzer, Glory Crampton, Richard White, Susan Powell, Janna Robbins, former Gov. Tom Kean and others.

Del Rossi, who died on Aug. 30 at the age of 80, started working at the Paper Mill in 1963, became its executive director in 1975, worked to rebuild the playhouse after it was destroyed by a fire in 1980, and retired as its executive director in 2003. His credits as an actor include the 1959 Broadway production of “Chéri.”

“He led the organization through some of the theater’s most prosperous years in the 1980s when Paper Mill was establishing itself as a world-class venue and incubator for new works,” said Hoebee in a press statement. “He was a kind and empathetic leader who was a friend to everyone.”

The event is free to the public.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorial contributions be made to the Angelo Del Rossi Fund, Paper Mill Playhouse, 22 Brookside Drive, Millburn, N.J. 07041.
