WHITNEY HOUSTON
Whitney Houston, who has been eligible for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction for the last decade, has received her first nomination.
The late Houston — who grew up in East Orange, began singing at New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, later lived in Mendham — is one of 16 contenders for 2010 induction. The others are The Dave Matthews Band, The Notorious B.I.G., Nine Inch Nails, The Doobie Brothers, Judas Priest, Todd Rundgren, Soundgarden, Pat Benatar, Kraftwerk, MC5, Motörhead, Depeche Mode, Rufus featuring Chaka Khan, T. Rex and Thin Lizzy.
The inductees will be announced in January and the ceremony will take place May 2 in Cleveland.
A Whitney Houston hologram tour is currently scheduled for Europe in February and March. There are no United States dates yet. Visit aneveningwithwhitney.com.
Besides Houston, New Jersey is also represented, among the nominees, by the late Doobie Brothers drummer Michael Hossack, who was born in Paterson and got his start as a musician performing in groups such as the Little Fall Cadets and the Fair Lawn Cadets. Hossack died in 2012, at the age of 65.
Fans can vote at rockhall.com, or at the Cleveland hall itself, though these votes will likely have little impact on the nominees list.

I don’t think Whitney Houston has anything to do with RocknRoll and it would be a shame to see someone who IS deserving not get in because she gets in. Meanwhile, Todd Rundgren, who is SO deserving of being in, is still just on the ballot and not in.
I don’t think you understand quite a lot in music, man. Whitney Houston can sing, and have sung any style of music better than anyone. She’s one of the greatest voices of all times, and deserves, more than Madonna, Janet Jackson, and many other artists, the right to be in the Hall of Fame.
