My Chemical Romance performed at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, Aug. 9.
“We’re gonna play you guys what may be the New Jersey state anthem,” said My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way before the final song of the band’s Aug. 9 concert at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford. The song is Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer”; you can watch My Chemical Romance’s performance of it, below.
Way said that My Chemical Romance member Frank Iero “requested this song because he saw me do it at karaoke. It was only one of two times I did karaoke. This (song) was the first.”
My Chemical Romance has a bit of history with Bon Jovi. In October 2007, they opened for Bon Jovi at the first concert ever presented at The Prudential Center in Newark.
Also during the Aug. 9 concert, as part of the intro to “Welcome to the Black Parade,” band members received the Key to the city of Belleville, where Way, Iero and Way’s brother and bandmate Mikey Way grew up. In his brief speech, Belleville mayor Michael Melham noted that this was the first time the city had given an official Key to anyone, and that members of The Four Seasons and the late Connie Francis also have connections to Belleville.
You can watch of video of Melham’s speech, below.
The show included the band’s 2006 album The Black Parade in its entirety. Here is the show’s setlist, according to setlist.fm, with The Black Parade songs in bold.
