This year’s Montclair Film Festival will take place Oct. 16-25.
Stephen Colbert, whose late-night talk show was controversially taken off the air by CBS in May, will participate in this year’s Montclair Film Festival, moderating conversations with director Ava DuVernay and writer-director Tony Gilroy.
The festival, now in its 15th year, will take place Oct. 16-25 at various Montclair venues. The complete schedule has not been announced yet.
Colbert is a Montclair resident and a member of Montclair Film’s advisory board. His wife Evelyn McGee Colbert is a trustee of the organization, and a former president of it.
The festival will screen DuVernay’s new “14th,” which is about the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m. at The Montclair Kimberley Academy Upper School. DuVernay will also receive the festival’s Documentary Filmmaker Award.
Gilroy’s “Behemoth!,” featuring Pedro Pascal as a renowned classical cellist, will screen Oct. 25 at 5 p.m. at the same venue. Gilroy will receive the festival’s 2026 Filmmaker Tribute.
The festival will also honor director Beth de Araújo with its Breakthrough Director Award at a screening of her “Josephine” at The Bellevue Theatre, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.
Stephen Beresford will receive the Screenwriter Award when his “Elsinore” screens at Montclair Kimberley Academy Upper School, Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m.
And Jack O’Connell, who plays tabloid newspaper editor Larry Lamb in the based-on-a-true-story “Ink” (screening Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at Montclair Kimberly Academy Upper School), will receive the Performer Award. (watch trailer below.)
Festival tickets will go on sale Sept. 28 at 10 a.m. for Montclair Film members, and Oct. 1 at 10 a.m. for the general public. Visit montclairfilm.org.
