Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band was one of the featured groups at a 2009 two-night event at Madison Square Garden celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Like other groups at these shows, they invited a number of guests to perform with them, including Billy Joel, John Fogerty, Sam Moore, Tom Morello and the woman Springsteen introduced as “a one-woman wall of sound”: Darlene Love.
Love sang two songs with the band; below is their powerhouse version of her 1963 hit, “A Fine, Fine Boy.”
Love was not yet in the hall of fame herself, but Springsteen called her a future member “if there’s any justice.” She was indeed inducted in 2011.
On Sept. 12, Love and E Streeter Steven Van Zandt will join forces for a “CD Release Event” at the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park. Love’s Introducing Darlene Love album comes out Sept. 18, with production by Van Zandt and songs written by him, Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Joan Jett and others.
New Jersey celebrated its 350th birthday last year. And in the 350 Jersey Songs series, we are marking the occasion by posting 350 songs — one a day, for almost a year — that have something to do with the state, its musical history, or both. We started in September 2014, and will keep going until late in the summer.
If you would like to suggest any songs to be included, please let me know in the comments section underneath the video. And if you want to see the entire list, either alphabetically or in the order the songs were selected, click here.
