The funk-influenced Newark rapper has managed to make music that appeals to hardcore rap fans while also reaching out to a broader audience with his comedic acting on TV shows (most famously, his2004 “Method & Red” sitcom with the Wu-Tang Clan’s Method Man) and movies (most successfully, his 2001 cult hit, “How High,” also with Method Man). He’s also been nominated for two Grammys, for collaborations with Christina Aguilera and De La Soul.
