On his 2002 song ” ‘Till I Collapse,” Eminem listed his favorite rappers in order: “Reggie, Jay-Z, Tupac and Biggie, André from OutKast, Jada, Kurupt, Nas and then me.” The Reggie who leads the list is Reggie Noble, better known as Redman.
The funk-influenced Newark rapper has managed to make music that appeals to hardcore rap fans while also reaching out to a broader audience with his comedic acting on TV shows (most famously, his 2004 “Method & Red” sitcom with the Wu-Tang Clan’s Method Man) and movies (most successfully, his 2001 cult hit, “How High,” also with Method Man). He’s also been nominated for two Grammys, for collaborations with Christina Aguilera and De La Soul.
He’s kept a pretty low profile in recent years, but below is a YouTube clip for “Time 4 Sum Aksion,” one of the standout tracks from his 1992 debut, Whut? Thee Album.
