Jack Antonoff and his band, Bleachers, will headline the first Shadow of the City festival.

Jack Antonoff of Bleachers has created his own music festival. The Bergen County native, who has also played in fun. and Steel Train, is the founder and curator of Shadow of the City, which will take place at the Stone Pony Summer Stage in Asbury Park, Sept. 19. Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m.; visit shadowofthe.city.

The title of the festival refers to New Jersey sometimes being viewed as existing in the shadow of New York.

Antonoff told RollingStone.com: “I believe in music festivals deeply. In a time when everyone is so uncertain of how people should buy, stream and find their music, live music feels more important than ever. I’ve spent almost my entire life in New Jersey and there is a hope and anthemic quality that is in the music born there that comes directly from being in the shadows of one of the greatest cities in the world. It’s forever a shitty younger brother. Growing up in NJ I didn’t understand how incredible this was. It’s not till later in life that I realize it is at the core of who I am. Someone who grew up in the shadow of the city and always felt less than and used music to create something bigger. I want to do this festival for the rest of my life and am so proud of its inaugural year.”

Bleachers will headline, and other performers will include Charli XCX, Vic Mensa, MisterWives, Cults, How to Dress Well, Robert DeLong and The Front Bottoms.
