With $37,493 (at the time of this post) raised through a GoFundMe campaign, the Asbury Park nightclub The Saint — though currently closed because of the coronavirus crisis — is officially no longer for sale.

Co-owner Meg Donoghue Kelly posted on Facebook yesterday: “Humbly, we thank you for the enormous show of support, kind words and positive energy in these dark times. Our friends have organized a fundraiser for us and we are in communication with like minded folks with a strong interest in investing with us. Partnering, an investor, is the ideal scenario.

“We are no longer selling, unless that wild 3 million dollar offer materializes.”

The GoFundMe campaign is still active, at gofundme.com/f/save-the-saint-asbury-park-nj.

The Saint, unlike most nightclubs in Asbury Park or anywhere else, presents live music on nearly every night of the week, every week of every year, and has done so for more than 25 years. It has a capacity of 150.

Bruce Springsteen did a video shoot for a BBC documentary there in 1998, and the club has been home base for multiple generations of Asbury Park musicians. Gordon Brown of the duo Williams Honor has described it as “the CBGB’s of the Jersey Shore.”

National acts who have performed there, according to the club’s website, include Creed, Jewel, Joey Ramone, Cake, Incubus, Deftones, Everlast, moe., Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Cannibal Corpse.
