Asbury Park punk fest will have music to spare

by JAY LUSTIG

Continuing in the tradition of last year’s Food Truck And Rock Carnival in Clark, New Jersey will have another music festival this year that is more than just a music festival. The Punk Rock Bowling and Music Festival, an annual event in Las Vegas for the last 18 years, will have a New Jersey edition for the first time, coming to Asbury Park June 10-12.

Tickets, priced at $50 per day, go on sale Jan. 9 at noon; visit punkrockbowling.com.

The event will take place at the Stone Pony Summer Stage, June 11-12. with late night club shows happening June 10 and 11. Where the bowling will take place remains to be seen (the Asbury Park club Asbury Lanes, which featured both music and bowling, is currently closed).

June 11 bands will include Descendents, Dag Nasty, Subhumans, H2O, 88 Fingers Louie, Giuda, Iron Chic, Sketchy and Lost in Society.

Among those performing on Jan. 12 will be Cock Sparrer, Flag IIII (a Black Flag offshoot featuring Keith Morris, Chuck Dukowski, Bill Stevenson, Dez Cadena and Stephen Egerton), Agnostic Front, The Slackers, Anti-Nowhere League, Off With Their Heads, Drug Chuch, The Scandals and Brutal Youth.

According to punkrockbowling.com:

CLUB SHOWS will be announced in March. We have 3 venues where we do late night club shows on Friday and 2 on Saturday. Venue capacities each night range from 350 to 900 and due to the limited supply of tickets and the high demand for some of these shows, we recommend you be ready at your internet device when they go on sale in March. We will be announcing the club show line-ups in March.

We have set up PRB East so the festival site and the clubs are all within several blocks of each other. Most everything is a 5-10 minute walk.
