BOB BURGER

Every so often, a song comes along that transcends the normal realms of pop culture and expresses a timeless truth. Such a song is Bob Burger’s “Pain in the Ass.”

I mean, who hasn’t wanted, as Burger does in the song, to tell an annoying person, “Everybody knows you’re a pain in the ass/Everywhere you go, you’re a pain in the ass/Everything you say, you’re a pain in the ass/Every single day/Hey, hey!/You’re a pain in the ass.”

Burger has just released a video for the catchy, upbeat song, directed by Mark Laidlaw and featuring a performance filmed at The Saint in Asbury Park in July. He posted it on Facebook early yesterday with the message, “Good morning … you know who you are!,” and you can watch it below.

Joining Burger in the video are singer Lisa Sherman, guitarist Jimmy Leahey, drummer Jerry Gaskill and Burger’s son, Mitch, on bass.

Burger, who is a member of the band The Weeklings and plays in Max Weinberg’s Jukebox, released the song on his solo album, The Domino Effect, which came out in July on the Jersey-based Jem label.

Burger’s upcoming New Jersey shows include McLoone’s Pier House in Long Branch, Oct. 7 (acoustic duo with PK Lavengood); The Levoy Theatre in Millville, Oct. 14 (with The Weeklings); Barnacle Bill’s in Rumson, Oct. 28 (acoustic duo with Leahey); and The Vogel at The Count Basie Center for the Arts in Red Bank, Nov. 4 (with The Weeklings).
