Those attending the Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band concert at Croke Park in Dublin today got a very special opening song — a solo piano version of “Incident on 57th Street” — and a nice surprise later when Bono joined the band for “Because the Night,” co-written by Springsteen and Patti Smith, and a Top 20 hit for Smith in 1978. (See videos of both, below.)

“We would not be here if it weren’t for Patti Smith setting fire to our imagination,” Bono said about her when she opened a concert for U2 at Madison Square Garden in 2005.

This was the second of two shows in Croke Park. Next up is Hampden Park in Glasglow, June 1.

The tour will return to New Jersey in late summer, for shows at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, Aug. 23, 25 and 30.
