Bruce Springsteen confirms Broadway run

by JAY LUSTIG

“Springsteen on Broadway” will take place in October and November.

It’s really happening.

Bruce Springsteen’s rumored Broadway run will take place at the Walter Kerr Theatre at 219 W. 48th St., Oct. 3 through Nov. 26, with the official opening on Oct. 12. It will be titled “Springsteen on Broadway,” and there will be five shows a week.

Tickets, priced from $75 to $850, will go on sale Aug. 30 at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster VerifiedFan; registration begins today and runs through Aug. 27.

(Aug. 30 Update: The run has been extended to Feb. 3.)

Springsteen said in a press release:

“I wanted to do some shows that were as personal and as intimate as possible. I chose Broadway for this project because it has the beautiful old theaters which seemed like the right setting for what I have in mind. In fact, with one or two exceptions, the 960 seats of the Walter Kerr Theatre is probably the smallest venue I’ve played in the last 40 years. My show is just me, the guitar, the piano and the words and music. Some of the show is spoken, some of it is sung. It loosely follows the arc of my life and my work. All of it together is in pursuit of my constant goal to provide an entertaining evening and to communicate something of value.”

The creative team for the show includes Heather Wolensky (scenic design), Natasha Katz (lighting design) and Brian Ronan (sound design).

Show dates will be Oct. 3-7, 10-11, 13-14, 17-21, 24-28 and 31 and Nov. 1-4, 7-11, 14-18, 21-22 and 24-26. They will begin at 8 p.m., with the exception of the Nov. 26 show, which starts at 3 p.m. The shows will be on Tuesdays through Saturdays most weeks, though there will be no show on Thurs., Nov. 23 (Thanksgiving) and the Nov. 26 show is on a Sunday.

The show is expected to run for about two hours, with no intermission. Children younger than 5 will not be admitted, and the kind of signs Springsteen fans use to request songs at arena and stadium shows will not be allowed into the theater.
