Volta at Meadowlands Racetrack

Cirque du Soleil will bring its “Volta” show to the Meadowlands Racetrack in March and April.

A Cirque du Soleil show, “Volta,” will be presented “Under the Big Top” at the Meadowlands Racetrack in East Rutherford in March and April.

In a special Cyber Monday-only deal, Nov. 27, a 25 percent discount will be available on select tickets.

Show dates are March 29-31 and April 1, 3-8, 10-15 and 17-22. “Volta” will also be presented at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, N.Y., May 17-June 10.

Cirque du Soleil (French for “Circus of the Sun”) is based in Montreal, and is considered the largest theatrical producing company in the world. Its shows typically combine acrobatics, dance and music with colorful costumes and a story that holds it all together.

“Volta” is one of 19 different shows it is currently bringing to cities around the world. It is also Cirque du Soleil’s newest show, having premiered earlier this year in Montreal.

The web site describes “Volta,” which features a score by the band Anthony Gonzalez (of the group M83), this way:

VOLTA tells a spellbinding story about the freedom to choose and the thrill of blazing your own trail. Inspired in part by the adventurous spirit that fuels the culture of action sports, the show weaves acrobatics in a visually striking world driven by a stirring melodic score.

VOLTA is a story of transformation. It is about being true to oneself, fulfilling one’s true potential, and the power of the group to make that possible. It celebrates freedom as a movement.
