Back in the ’80s and ’90s, the Waterloo Village field in Byram Township was one of New Jersey’s most important concert venues. I saw stops on the Lollapalooza and HORDE package tours there, as well as a Joe Cocker/Stevie Ray Vaughan double bill and many other shows.

Look for the Sussex County venue to return in some form, in 2017. A new Facebook page, “The Fields at Waterloo,” has been created, and a message posted there today says “We hope to have some announcements soon!”

According to a message on the page’s “About” tab, “The Fields at Waterloo are looking to return back to its prominent place among event venues in the Northeast. Formerly a venue that hosted acts such as the Allman Brothers, Bob Dylan, Blink 182, and the Beach Boys, The Fields are actively seeking to partner with top promoters from across the area, state, and region to bring concerts, festivals, fairs, and more back to the area.”

Waterloo last presented concerts regularly in the early 2000s. Other artists who performed there over the years include Phish, Neil Young, Elvis Costello, Bonnie Raitt, Peter Frampton and Gov’t Mule.

I also saw Met Opera stars, Peter, Paul and Mary, Harry Chapin, Roy Orbison and many others under the tent. Hoping the choices will be many and varied.(I understand I have really dated myself here, but they were great performers…☺)

They have to manage traffic and security, first. Those are two major issues they faced in 1990s to 2000s.
