The Bell Theater at Bell Works in Holmdel will present “East Carson Street,” a musical featuring the songs of Joe Grushecky, in May.

“East Carson Street,” a musical featuring songs written by veteran rock artist Joe Grushecky and co-starring Tony-nominated actor (“Rock of Ages”) Constantine Maroulis, will have its world premiere at the newly renovated Bell Theater at Bell Works in Holmdel, with shows on May 3-5 and 9-12.

Grushecky has described the show as “a musical using all my songs and the characters of my songs and the themes I’ve been writing about for years” and “a story about a Pittsburgh family over a 20-, 30-year time period.”

Broadway veteran Teal Wicks (“Wicked,” “Jekyll and Hyde,” “The Cher Show”) will co-star, and Daniel Kutner — the associate director of “Prince of Broadway,” a 2017 revue devoted to works from the career of director and producer Harold Prince — will direct.

The theater’s grand opening will continue with four concerts:

May 16: Brazilian-American singer Alexia Bomtempo with pianist Art Topilow and singer-saxophonist Danny Bacher.

May 17: “An Evening with LaChanze”

May 18: Michael Cavanaugh and Band

May 19: The Weeklings, “Beatlesbash, a Journey Through Music of The Beatles”

According to the theater’s website, “Our vision is to become a leading cultural institution that celebrates diversity, creativity, and excellence in the performing arts. We aim to provide a platform for emerging artists while also showcasing established acts, with the goal of creating a vibrant cultural scene in the region.”
