The pioneering progressive-bluegrass band Tony Trischka & Skyline will reunite for a set at the 42nd annual New Jersey Folk Festival, which takes place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 30 on the grounds of the Eagleton Institute at Rutgers University in New Brunswick. They will perform at 3:30 p.m., and their mandolinist, Barry Mitterhoff, will be presented with a lifetime achievement award at noon.
Over the course of his 47-year career, Mitterhoff — who was born in Newark and grew up in Irvington and Springfield — also has played with Jorma Kaukonen and Kaukonen’s band Hot Tuna, Silk City, Peter Rowan, Bottle Hill and the Dirdy Birdies Jug Band.
Skyline, which recorded and toured in the ’70s and ’80s, includes singer-guitarist Danny Weiss and bassist Larry Cohen, in addition to Mitterhoff and banjo player Trischka. Fiddler Kenny Kosek and guitarist Joe Selly will join them at this show.
Other performers throughout the day will include The River Drivers, Dark City Strings, Aubrey Grand, Spook Handy, Roger Deitz, Dan O’Dea and Eagle Ridge, and Dan Godbey.
