Glory Day: Springsteen releases recording of 8/22/85 Giants Stadium show

Bruce Springsteen has released a recording of his Aug. 22, 1985 concert at Giants Stadium.

Music from one of Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band’s six 1985 shows at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford — the one on Aug. 22 — will be released in digital and CD form in Springsteen’s ongoing series of archival recordings.

Part of Springsteen’s Born in the USA Tour, this was one of two Giants Stadium shows to feature a guest appearance by Steven Van Zandt, who had recently left the group to pursue a solo career. Van Zandt performed on five of the songs in the encore.

“Bruce Springsteen has enjoyed many a Jersey homecoming: Red Bank 1975; Passaic 1978, Meadowlands 1981, 1984, and 1999; Asbury Park and Freehold 1996, to name only a few,” writes Erik Flannigan in the liner notes. “But surely none was bigger than the six-show run Bruce and the E Street Band performed at Giants Stadium in the summer of 1985, arguably the zenith of the Born in the U.S.A. Tour.”
