YOLANDA ADAMS

The 38th McDonald’s Gospelfest — New Jersey’s biggest annual gospel event, as well as one of the biggest in the country — will take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, May 9. For tickets, visit ticketmaster.com.

The lineup will include Yolanda Adams, Kelly Price and Hezekiah Walker and his Love Fellowship Tabernacle Choir, with more performers to be added.

As is customary for Gospelfest, it is scheduled for the Saturday of Mother’s Day Weekend.

As always, the event will have an early portion (beginning this year at 5 p.m.) with a competition for aspiring artists in categories such as Soloists, Choirs, Praise Dancers, Singing Groups, Gospel Comedians, Gospel Poets and Gospel Rappers. This will be followed by a concert at 7 p.m. featuring established acts such as Adams, Price and Walker.

Adams — the five-time Grammy winner who was recently heard singing “America the Beautiful” before Super Bowl LIV in Miami — and Walker performed at last year’s Gospelfest at the Prudential Center, as did Shirley Caesar, Tamar Braxton, Fred Hammond and others.
