The Jersey-based JEM Records label — which previously has released tribute albums celebrating the songwriting of John Lennon, Brian Wilson, Pete Townshend, Ray Davies, and Mick Jagger & Keith Richards — has announced the sixth installment in the series. JEM Records Celebrates David Bowie will be released on Aug. 29, on gold vinyl.

The album’s hard-charging first single, The Cynz’ power-pop take on “Can’t Help Thinking About Me,” came out today. You can listen to it, as well as Bowie’s original version, below.

If you never have heard Bowie’s recording of this song … that’s not exactly surprising. “Can’t Help Thinking About Me,” released in 1966, was not a hit. It was, though, Bowie’s first single on which he used his stage name. (Born David Robert Jones, he had released previous singles under the names Davie Jones and Davy Jones, and as a member of the group The Mannish Boys.) Bowie also re-recorded “Can’t Help Thinking About Me” in 2000 for his album Toy, which was posthumously released in 2021.

Here is the track listing for JEM Records Celebrates David Bowie:

“Space Oddity,” The Grip Weeds
“Hang on to Yourself,” Paul Collins
“Can’t Help Thinking About Me,” The Cynz
“Kooks,” The On and Ons
“Boys Keep Swinging,” The Anderson Council
“I’m Afraid of Americans,” The Airport 77s
“Modern Love,” The High Frequencies
“Changes,” The Midnight Callers
“Diamond Dogs,” The Weeklings
“Starman” (live), Richard Barone
“Heroes,” Nick Piunti & the Complicated Men
