John Mayer will perform at the Prudential Center in Newark, March 11.

John Mayer will kick off a solo tour, backing himself mostly on acoustic guitar (and also, on some songs, piano or electric guitar), at the Prudential Center in Newark, March 11. Tickets go on sale Feb. 3 at 9 a.m., with pre-sales beginning Feb. 1 at 9 a.m.; visit

He will also perform at Madison Square Garden in New York, March 15.

Two pairs of front-row tickets will be auctioned off for each show on the tour through, with proceeds going to Mayer’s Heart & Armor Foundation (benefiting veterans) and other organizations.

Along with James Taylor, Sheryl Crow, Gary Clark Jr., Pat Benatar, Mavis Staples, St. Vincent and many others, Mayer also will perform at Love Rocks NYC, a benefit for God’s Love We Deliver taking place at the Beacon Theatre in New York, March 9. The organization brings meals to those too ill to cook or shop for themselves.

The solo tour is scheduled to last until April 14. From early May to mid-July, Mayer is then scheduled to perform with Dead and Company, with dates including Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, June 15; and Citi Field in New York, June 21-22. The band — also featuring former Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann, plus Oteil Burbridge and Jeff Chimenti — has announced that this tour will be its last.
