Performing at the Rialto Theatre in Tucson, Sept. 15, Little Steven & the Disciples of Soul performed — to my knowledge, at least — the first live version of any song from Bruce Springsteen’s Western Stars album, anywhere.

Not surprisingly, given the location, they went with “Tucson Train,” giving the song an R&B flavor that made it sound like something Steven Van Zandt could have written himself. You can check it out below.

“We got something special for you tonight,” said Van Zandt, introducing the song. “We’re gonna try something out, first time. A buddy of mine has a new album out called Western Stars. And the movie’s gonna come out, I believe it’s Oct. 25. Ya gotta see this movie. It’s one of the most incredible things I’ve ever seen in my life.

“We’re gonna give you a little recycled version of the trailer to the movie. Audio trailer, anyway. This is something called ‘Tucson Train.’ ”

“Tucson Train” is No. 14 on NJArts.net’s list of the Top 70 Springsteen songs of the last 30 years. Check out the complete list here.

Oh yea, what a day this was. Stevie brought it big time with all that jersey has to offer our new city. Linda Chorney was with me, celebrating the release of her feature film When I Sing. The film actually has contributions from a couple of the Disciples, Marc Ribler and Andy Burton!1 we danced the night away
