Asbury Lanes in Asbury Park is clearly one of the state’s most unique nightclubs. It’s not just converted from a bowling alley, but it still has some lanes, so you can play while the bands perform.
New York garage-punk band the Dead Exs took advantage of the club’s gritty retro ambience in its 2011 video for its catchy and powerful “More Stuff.” Check it out below.
Dead Exs member Dave Pattillo will return to Asbury Park on May 24, opening for John Eddie and His Dirty Ole Band at the Wonder Bar, under the name Strange Majik. For information, visit wonderbarasburypark.com.
New Jersey celebrated its 350th birthday in 2014. And in the 350 Jersey Songs series, we marked the occasion by posting 350 songs — one a day, from September 2014 to September 2015 — that have something to do with the state, its musical history, or both. To see the entire list, click here.
