‘Braveheart’ actors to reunite at ‘Pipes of Christmas’ concerts

The 17th annual “Pipes of Christmas” shows will take place in New York, Dec. 19, and Summit, Dec. 20.

Three actors from the 1995 movie “Braveheart” will reunite at the “Pipes of Christmas” show taking place in New York, Dec. 19, and Summit, Dec. 20. Mhairi Calvey, James Robinson, and Andrew Weir will perform in the 17th annual “Pipes” shows, in a tribute to the composer James Horner, who died in June, and whose many other credits include “Titanic,” “Avatar” and “Field of Dreams.”

The concerts, which feature drums, pipes and other instruments native to Scotland, Ireland and Wales, take place at the Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church, 921 Madison Ave., New York, at 2 and 7 p.m. Dec. 19; and the Central Presbyterian Church, 70 Maple St., Summit, Dec. 20 at 2 and 7 p.m.

The concerts will also feature the world premiere of a new work  by a music student at Edinburgh Napier University, as part of the university’s Christmas Composition Contest sponsored by Scottish writer Alexander McCall Smith (known for the “No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency” series).

Proceeds from the concerts will go to an international music scholarship program that includes annual gifts to students in the United States, Scotland and Canada. For information, visit PipesOfChristmas.com or facebook.com/ThePipesofChristmas.
