Howard Stern on ‘Springsteen on Broadway’: ‘One of the most moving nights of my life’

by JAY LUSTIG

Bruce Springsteen says his nightly “Springsteen on Broadway” shows will follow a script but be about “renewal,” not “repetition.”

Howard Stern attended “Springsteen on Broadway” on Wednesday, and talked about it on the air today.

“It was, I think, one of the most moving nights of my life,” he said. “I was sitting next to my wife, and Bruce … you know, I read his book (‘Born to Run’), so what this show is … really, it’s like sitting in Bruce’s living room, and he’s doing excerpts from his book, and talking about his life, but what’s so great is, he either plays the piano by himself, or he plays guitar by himself … and he goes through his life, and he plays these relevant songs, and you get the fuckin’ chills. The guy is such an entertainer.

“And then about halfway through the show, his wife Patti comes up. They do two songs together. It is so romantic. I was holding my wife’s hand the whole time. … And Bruce talks about shit that anyone could relate to. The show is such a gift.”

Stern talked some more about various sections of the show, then concluded: “It’s very humorous, but very poignant, very touching. And it was very beautiful.”

Stern went with Jimmy Kimmel, who gave him the tickets as a gift for appearing on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” last week. He said Billy Joel and Jim Carrey were also there, that night.

“Springsteen on Broadway” is currently running through Feb. 3, though according to the New York Post, it could be extended, possibly even until June.

They were actually at the show on Wednesday 10/18. We were there also and it was fantastic. We saw Billy Joel and Jim Carrey there also.

Yeah, Howard Stern had such positive things to say about Springsteen 15-20 years ago. Evolved into such a phony.
