NJPAC is offering online entertainment and education via its “In Your Living Room” video library.
The New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark — closed now, of course, because of the coronavirus crisis — has created an online library, titled “NJPAC in Your Living Room,” where it will show original content, past NJPAC offerings, and content from other arts organization.

Artists featured in videos range from the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater to rapper Ja Rule, “Great American Songbook” crooner Michael Feinstein, and the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra. There are also offerings geared toward children, workshops, and wellness videos. And every Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m., “In Your Living Room” will present a DJ Dance Party; the April 16 DJ is Storm Norm Da General from BKS1 Radio.
Additional videos will be announced on NJPAC’s Faceboook, Twitter and Instagram feeds, and then will be archived on the site.
“In this unprecedented time of uncertainty, we need the joy and the connection the performing arts can bring us, more than we ever have before,” said NJPAC executive producer and executive vice president David Rodriguez in a press release.
Here are the seven categories currently listed on the “In Your Living Room” page, and a few of the videos available in each one:
• Our Community, Your Home: “Books on the Move” videos for children; Virtual Latin Dance Party; rapper Kurtis Blow in an NJPAC Sounds of the City performance; yoga and meditation classes.
• Arts Education: Hip-hop students at Sounds of the City; Mercer Musical Theater performances; master class by jazz violinist Regina Carter.
• Classical & Theater: Xian Zhang’s Romeo and Juliet; A Conversation with Philip Glass; “Discovery Concert: Bach to the Future,” featuring George Marriner Maull.
• Jazz: Trilogy with Chick Corea; “Jazz in the Key of Ellison” at NJPAC; TD James Moody Jazz Festival at NJPAC.
• Dance: “Bill T. Jones: Legacies and Legends”; Jersey (New) Moves at NJPAC; “Nimbus Dance: New Works.”
• For the Kids: Savion Glover’s “BRiNG TiME BaCK”; NJ Kids On the Go Online Activities for Kids; MommyPoppins Guide for Parents: 100s of Activities and Resources.
• Variety: Ja Rule & Ashanti; “NJTV’s State of the Arts: Poetry State”; NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts.
