Evan Cutts and Attorius Renee Augustin will lead online poetry workshops presented by the City Verses program this fall.

This year’s edition of the biennial Dodge Poetry Festival — the biggest poetry event in North America, which had been scheduled to take place at The New Jersey Performing Arts Center and other Newark venues in October — has been changed to an online-only event, from Oct. 22 to Nov. 1. The schedule is not available yet but when it is, it will be posted at dodgepoetry.org.

In the meantime, though, teens 13-17 who are interested in poetry can take advantage of free online workshops that will be offered by NJPAC’s City Verses program, Oct. 7 and 21. Poets Evan Cutts and Attorius Renee Augustin, who are both affiliated with Rutgers-Newark, will lead participants in talking about poetry and using jazz as inspiration when writing. The workshops will be at 3 p.m., with the opportunity to share poetry in an online open-mic at 4 p.m. No experience is necessary.

Cutts and Augustin will also offer similar workshops for adults, 18 and older, Nov. 4 and 18 at 6 p.m. (No experience necessary). And Cutts, Augustin and City Verses artistic director Mark Gross will co-curate “Poetry Meets Jazz” virtual performances Oct. 28 and Nov. 11 at 7 p.m.

City Verses is a program, co-founded by NJPAC and Rutgers-Newark, that explores the connection between poetry and jazz. For information, visit njpac.org/series/city-verses.
