Dance, film and music will be featured in the 20206-2027 season of Peak Performances at Montclair State University, beginning with a show titled “White Space” by the dance company A.I.M. by Kyle Abramson, Sept. 17.
“White Space” features music composed by Jason Moran and Nico Muhly, and according to a description on Peak Performances web site, it “grounds its cast of 11 captivating dancers in a restless and thought-provoking world fueled by a vast movement vocabulary consisting of Abraham’s signature blend of classical and contemporary dance with a hip-hop underbelly. The score is performed live by two pianists on one piano, with echoes of pre-recorded hip-hop driving the collision of reality and idealism.”
Films presented in Peak Performances’ free Classic Films Now series will include three that were released 50 years ago (in 1976) and dominated the 1977 Oscars: “Rocky,” “All the President’s Men” and “Network.”

Nov. 22, 3 p.m.: “The Party Scene,” presented by Dance Heginbotham with music by the Hands Free quartet (James Moore on guitar and banjo, Caroline Shaw on violin, Nathan Koci on accordion, Eleonore Oppenheim on bass) at Alexander Kasser Theater. Family-friendly, “lightly immersive” show inspired by “The Nutcracker.”
