Regina Carter, Antibalas, Steve Turre will be among performers at Montclair Jazz Festival

This year’s Montclair Jazz Festival takes place Sept. 9.

Violinist Regina Carter, the Afrobeat band Antibalas, bassist Christian McBride and trombonist Steve Turre will be among the performers at this year’s edition of the free, annual Montclair Jazz Festival, taking place Sept. 9 in Downtown Montclair, with other performers including Melanie Charles, Houston Person, Edmar Castañeda, Vince Ector and Michael Mwenso & the Shakes. McBride will also serve as the festival’s music director and curator.

In addition, the Montclair-based Jazz House Kids organization, which produces the festival, will present a free Block Party at Lackawanna Plaza in Montclair, from noon to 10 p.m. on Aug. 12, with Charlie Sigler, Endea Owens & the Cookout, McBride spinning records as DJ Brother Mister, and 150 musicians from the Jazz House Kids performing in various configurations.

BDP Holdings Stage
1:30 p.m.: Jazz House Collective Big Band
3 p.m.: Steve Turre
4:30 p.m.: Melanie Charles
6 p.m.: Christian McBride
7:45 p.m.: Antibalas

Fullerton Stage
1 p.m.: Person to Person featuring saxophonists Houston Person and Eric Person (no relation)
2:30 p.m.: Edmar Castañeda
4 p.m.: Vince Ector Organatomy
5:30 p.m.: Regina Carter
7 p.m.: Michael Mwenso & the Shakes

There will be three other stages as well, featuring musicians from the Jazz House Kids program; a “Family Jazz Discovery Zone; and food and crafts vendors.
