Tori Amos will release an expanded edition of her “Strange Little Girls” album in February.
Tori Amos’ previously unreleased studio version of Bruce Springsteen’s “Growin’ Up” will be included on expanded, 2-CD and double-vinyl editions of her Grammy-nominated 2001 concept album Strange Little Girls. The complete album won’t be available until Feb. 20 but “Growin’ Up” was released today; you can listen to it below.
The album is devoted to songs written by men but sung for it, Amos said, from a female perspective. Other songs on it include Eminem’s ” ’97 Bonnie & Clyde,” Slayer’s “Raining Blood,” The Beatles’ “Happiness Is a Warm Gun,” The Velvet Underground’s “New Age” and Neil Young’s “Heart of Gold.”
“Growin’ Up” — which features Matt Chamberlain on drums in addition to Amos on piano and vocals — is one of two previously unreleased tracks that will be on the expanded edition. The other one is Elvis Costello’s “Hoover Factory.”
Two other tracks were previously released only as B-sides: David Bowie’s “After All” and Alice Cooper’s “Only Women Bleed.”
In the spring, Amos will tour in Europe and release a new album, In Times of Dragons. She describes the album as “a metaphorical story about the fight for Democracy over Tyranny, reflecting the current abhorrent non accidental burning down of democracy in real time by the ‘Dictator believing Lizard Demons’ in their usurpation of America.”
