Progressive-rock visionary Robert Fripp and David Singleton will bring a “speaking tour” titled “That Awful Man and His Manager” to The Vogel at The Count Basie Center for the Arts in Red Bank, Sept. 27. Tickets go on sale June 24 at 10 a.m., with pre-sales starting June 22 at 10 a.m.; visit

Singleton is indeed Fripp’s manager but has also worked as a producer and engineer on albums by Fripp’s band King Crimson and others, and has performed under his own name and the pseudonym The Vicar.

According to the Basie Center’s website, “An endless stream of people ask Fripp burning questions, many of which are actually not even quite smoldering. In most cases they would be better answered by David Singleton. This is an opportunity to ask both Fripp and Singleton the questions that get them out of bed in the morning.

“Where does Music come from? What does it take to survive the music business? When does the impossible become possible? Can Music change the world? Why did Fripp put on a tutu and dance to Swan Lake at the end of his garden? Who is The Vicar?”

The tour is currently scheduled to last from Sept. 16 to Oct. 9 with other stops including City Winery in New York, Sept. 23, and City Winery in Philadelphia, Sept. 28.
