The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey’s 2024 season will begin in May.

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey has announced its 2024 season — its first under new artistic Brian B. Crowe, though Bonnie J. Monte, whose 34 years as artistic director ended last year, will be back to direct one play.

As usual, the season will include five shows at The F.M. Kirby Shakespeare Theatre at Drew University in Madison, as well as an outdoor summertime production at The Greek Amphitheater at Saint Elizabeth University in Florham Park.

The outdoor production will be Shakespeare’s comedy “As You Like It,” June 19-July 14. The indoor productions will be:

May 15-June 9: “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder,” book and lyrics by Robert L. Freedman, music and lyrics by Steven Lutvak, based on a novel by Roy Horniman. The winner of the 2014 Tony for Best Musical.

July 10-28: “The Book of Will,” by Lauren Gunderson. Directed by Bonnie J. Monte. A 2017 play about two actors who were friends of Shakespeare’s, and championed his works after his death.

Sept. 4-22: “Sense and Sensibility.” Jessica Swale’s 2014 adaptation of the classic Jane Austen novel.

Oct. 16-Nov. 17: Shakespeare’s “Macbeth.” This will be The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey’s first production of this tragedy since 2004.

Dec. 4-29: Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” adapted for the stage by Neil Bartlett. Paul Mullins will direct.

Subscriptions and memberships are now on sale. Smaller packages will be available in March; single tickets, later in the spring. Visit shakespearenj.org.
