The Legendary Wailers, featuring Junior Marvin (center), will be featured in NJPAC’s Horizon Sounds of the City series.
The legendary reggae band The Wailers, the jam band Lettuce, R&B singer-songwriter Lyfe Jennings and rapper MC Lyte will be among the artists performing in this year’s edition of NJPAC’s annual, free Horizon Sounds of the City concert series, which will take place on the newly renovated Chambers Plaza, in front of the NJPAC building. As usual, food trucks, and resource tables run by healthcare organizations and Newark nonprofits, will be featured as well.
Chambers Plaza now has a lawn edged with permanent seating, a larger dance area, new lighting and audio equipment, and native plantings. The improvements are part of a $336 million campus-wide redevelopment project that will be finished in 2027.
The June 27-29 shows will be part of The North to Shore Festival, and the June 28-29 concerts will also showcase local artists selected by the festival
Here is the schedule:
June 27: Felix Hernandez’ Rhythm Revue Dance Party
June 28: Milo Z, Maurice Chestnut (tap dancer), P. Genz
June 29: Lettuce, Sed Marsh, Gail Campbell
July 10: The Legendary Wailers featuring Junior Marvin
July 17: Lyfe Jennings
July 24: DJ Tunez
