Steely Dan and Steve Winwood have always had something in common. Steely Dan — with their groundbreaking 1970s albums — and Winwood (primarily via his work with the band Traffic in the ’60s and ’70s) are two of the artists most successful at introducing a jazz element into rock ‘n’ roll.

This summer, they will be touring together, and coming to the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, July 10. Tickets go on sale Jan 25 at 10 a.m.; visit

They will also be at the Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, N.Y., July 5. Tickets to this show also go on sale Jan. 25 at 10 a.m. visit

All in all, there will be 24 shows — from May 27 in Austin, Texas, to July 11 in Bethel, N.Y. — on the tour, which is titled Earth After Hours.

Steely Dan co-founder Donald Fagen has kept the band going under that name since the death of co-founder Walter Becker in 2017. “I would actually prefer to call it Donald Fagen & the Steely Dan Band or something like that,” he told Rolling Stone in late 2017, adding that promoters prefer “Steely Dan.”

“That’s an ongoing debate,” he said. “To me, Steely Dan was just me and Walter, really — it was like a concept we had together.”
