Stephen Colbert and J.J. Abrams will make a joint appearance at NJPAC in Newark, Nov. 21, to benefit the Montclair Film Festival.

New Jerseyans will be able to see Stephen Colbert live, rather than on television, on Nov. 21, when the “Late Show” host and director J.J. Abrams (“Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” “Lost,” “Alias,” “Fringe,” “Star Trek”) will appear together in an event billed as a “Celebrity Nerd-Off!” at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark. It’s not some kind of contest (though that would be fun), but an opportunity for the two to engage in an onstage conversation about a wide range of topics.

The Montclair Film Festival will benefit, as it has from similar previous events featuring Montclair resident Colbert with Steve Carell, Colbert with Jon Stewart, and Colbert with Jimmy Fallon.

Tickets, priced from $59.50 to $250, go on sale Sept. 11 at 10 a.m.; visit njpac.org or ticketmaster.com.

“We remain incredibly grateful to Stephen Colbert for his unwavering support of our organization. To be able to host a visionary filmmaker like J.J. Abrams is a dream come true and we could not be more excited,” said Montclair Film Festival executive director Tom Hall in a press release.

Next year’s Montclair Festival takes place from April 29 to May 8. for information, visit montclairfilmfest.org.
