Steven Van Zandt has released a new single. “Saint Valentine’s Day.”
Just in time for the holiday: The Steven Van Zandt-written song, “St. Valentine’s Day Massacre,” first recorded by the all-female Norwegian band The Cocktail Slippers, has been renamed “Saint Valentine’s Day” and released as a new single by Van Zandt himself. You can listen to both Van Zandt’s version and the Cocktail Slippers’ version, below.
The Cocktail Slippers’ version came out on their Saint Valentine’s Day Massacre album, released in 2009 on Van Zandt’s Wicked Cool Records label. The song was also played by the fictional band The Twylight Zones in the 2012 film “Not Fade Away,” for which Van Zandt served as an executive producer and the music supervisor (you can also watch that clip below).

“The full album to follow later this year,” posted guitarist Marc Ribler on his Facebook page, where he also said he will be serving as co-producer and musical director for the album.
Van Zandt is currently on tour with Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, and they actually have a show on Valentine’s Day itself, at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre. It’s a long shot, but how great would it be if Van Zandt sang the song at the show, backed by the E Street Band?
