The Montclair-based band The Porchistas has immortalized one of their favorite venues, Montclair’s Tierney’s Tavern, in “The Tierney’s Song.” Undoubtedly they will perform it when they headline a “Halloween Party” there Oct. 29 at 8:30 p.m., also featuring the band The Defending Champions, and dance and costume contests.

In the low-key, acoustic song (listen below), the band refers to the legend that the building is haunted, and presents an affectionate look at the bar/nightclub â€” which really could be any New Jersey bar/nightclub â€” by zeroing in on some of its employees and patrons:

Jimmy’s flipping burgers for the breakfast crowd
Hung over from the night before
Hair of the dog, head in a fog
Giant game starts at 4.

Hannah’s on the couch with the TV on
Hung over from the night before
Didn’t know his name or how she got home
Back to the bar for more.

The song is part of third annnual 24 Hour Songwriting Challenge curated by the web site, Speak Into My Good Eye (speakimge.com) and featuring original songs written and recorded in a 24-hour span. Proceeds from downloads will go to City of Angels NJ, which helps people fighting substance abuse.

The artist with the most downloads wins studio time donated by Eight+Sixteen in Bayville.
