Journey and The Pretenders will team up for a tour in the summer of 2020, with venues including the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, Aug. 4, and the BB&T Pavilion in Camden, Aug. 5. Tickets will go on sale Nov. 8 at 10 a.m., with pre-sales starting Nov. 4 at 10 a.m.
The tour is currently scheduled to include 60 shows from May 15, in Ridgefield, Wash., to Sept. 12, in Bethel, N.Y.
Journey’s current lineup includes lead guitarist Neal Schon, bassist Ross Valory, keyboardist Jonathan Cain, drummer Steve Smith and singer Arnel Pineda.
The Pretenders feature singer Chrissie Hynde, drummer Martin Chambers, guitarists James Walbourne and Eric Heywood, bassist Nick Wilkinson and keyboardist Carwyn Ellis.
It seems like a bit of an odd pairing to me. While the bands both peaked, in terms of popularity, in the early ’80s, The Pretenders were part of the new wave movement, which represented a relatively edgy reaction against play-it-safe mainstream bands such as Journey.
