“Make It Alone,” from the musical “The Wanderer,” has been released as a single.
The upbeat survivor’s anthem “Make It Alone” — from the musical “The Wanderer,” which ran at The Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn in 2022 (read review HERE) — has been released as a single, and you can listen to it below.
The track was produced by Stevie Van Zandt, who is also co-producing a version of the show that he is hoping to bring to Broadway. Cast members Mike Wartella and Diego Andres Rodriguez, backed by members of Van Zandt’s Disciples of Soul band, recently performed the song on the television show “Good Day New York” (watch below). They were joined by Van Zandt, his wife Maureen (who is co-producing “The Wanderer”) and another co-producer, Jill Menza; they all talked about the musical with “Good Day New York” co-host Rosanna Scotto.
I have also included, below, the original version of the song, recorded as “Gonna Make It Alone” by Dion in the 1960s, and included on his 2006 compilation, Bronx Blues: The Columbia Recordings 1962-1965.
Dion, 86, recently performed at one of the “Music America” concerts celebrating the opening of The Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music at Monmouth University in West Long Branch.
