With the holiday season right around the corner, The Weeklings — who have recorded many Beatles songs, and frequently perform them at their concerts — have released a holiday song, done their way: a mashup of “Winter Wonderland” and The Beatles’ “Revolution.”
The video for the song, which opens with a photo of downtown Asbury Park (featuring a holiday season sign saying “Greetings From Asbury Park”), can be seen below, and MP3s are available at amazon.com.
The band’s last single, a cover of The Beatles’ “Paperback Writer,” similarly added elements of The Monkees’ “Pleasant Valley Sunday,” though “Revolution Wonderland” takes the mashup strategy further.
Coincidentally, it was announced, this week, that The Beatles’ seven holiday messages, originally distributed only to fan club members on flexi-discs from 1963 to 1969, will be released as a limited edition vinyl boxed set titled The Christmas Records on Dec. 15. The Weeklings have four more New Jersey appearances scheduled through the end of the year: Nov. 17 at Tim McLoone’s Supper Club in Asbury Park; Nov. 18 (with Max Weinberg’s Jukebox) at the Landis Theater in Vineland; Dec. 9 (at Glen Burtnik’s Xmas Xtravaganza) at the State Theatre in New Brunswick; and Dec. 20 at The Dome Lounge at The Manor in West Orange.
