Southside Johnny will perform Bruce Springsteen songs at the Stone Pony, Feb. 28.
There wasn’t a lot of fanfare about it, but on New Year’s Eve — as Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes were performing at the State Theatre in New Brunswick — tickets to two intriguing shows by them at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park went on sale.
Feb. 27, they will play a show titled “Rare Jukes: All the Non-Hits, All the Time.” And the Feb. 28 concert will possibly be even more of an “event”; it’s called “Prove It All Night: The Music of Bruce Springsteen.”
Southside, of course, has recorded many songs written or co-written by Springsteen over the years (“The Fever,” “Talk to Me,” “Hearts of Stone,” “Trapped Again,” “All the Way Home,” “You Mean So Much to Me,” “Love on the Wrong Side of Town,” “When You Dance”). But this show will presumably give him a chance to perform some Boss-written material he usually doesn’t do.
Southside will also perform at the main Light of Day concert at the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park, Jan. 17.
