LARRY KIRWAN
Black 47 presented its last concerts last year, but the Irish-rock band’s frontman Larry Kirwan is busy on a number of fronts, and will perform his one-man show, “Stephen Foster in the Five Points,” at the Ender Hall Lab Theatre at Bergen Community College in Paramus, Thursday at 2 and 7 p.m. For information, visit bergen.edu.
In the show, Kirwan sings material by the great songwriter (“Oh! Susanna,” “Camptown Races,” “Swanee River”) and talks about him, zeroing in on the summer of 1863, when the country was embroiled in the Civil War and Foster lived in the Five Points section of downtown Manhattan.
Kirwan also hosts the “Celtic Crush” show on SiriusXM satellite radio’s The Spectrum channel, and has written a book, “The History of Irish Music” — a free-ranging survey of the music from Kirwan’s perspective, with lots of personal stories — that comes out April 21.
