The 20th annual Black Potatoe Music Festival takes place July 13-17, outdoors at the Red Mill Museum in Clinton; for a preview and the schedule, click here. There will be more than 40 sets of music over the five days, but in honor of the anniversary, I’ve selected 20 videos showcasing some of the folk, rock and blues artists who will be appearing.
Some of the artists, such as Sarah Borges, Ellis Paul, James Maddock and Willy Porter, have national followings. Others are little known outside of local or regional circles. What they all have in common is that they are “indie” artists, recording for small or self-owned record labels and existing, for the most part, outside the music industry’s sometimes creativity-crushing corporate structures. Most have appeared at at least one Black Potatoe fest in the past.
