Bruce Springsteen made a surprise appearance at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park tonight, at a benefit for Stevie Van Zandt’s educational organization, TeachRock. He sang on “I Don’t Want to Go Home,” “Raise Your Hand” and “Tenth Avenue Freeze-out” with Van Zandt and Van Zandt’s Disciples of Soul band.
You can watch videos of all three songs below, as well as videos of Van Zandt and the Disciples of Soul (the show’s house band) performing The Jacksons’ 1980 hit “Can You Feel It” (co-written by Michael and Jackie Jackson); Gary U.S. Bonds performing “This Little Girl”; Darlene Love performing “River Deep — Mountain High”; and Jesse Malin performing Van Zandt’s “Lyin’ in a Bed of Fire.”
The event was celebrated the birthdays of Van Zandt and his wife Maureen. According to a preview on Eventbrite.com: “Fans can enjoy a unique garage sale of music memorabilia, participate in a Halloween t-shirt design contest, and experience many unforgettable performances, all while supporting TeachRock in its mission to bring music-based learning to thousands of students.
