A familiar face on the Shore music scene, Gordon Brown, will present songwriting seminars at the Rehearsal & Seminar Room of the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, April 16-17 at 6 p.m. Tickets are $100 for one day or $180 for both; those attending both can also attend a performance by Brown’s country duo with Reagan Richards, Williams Honor, at which they will both perform songs and discuss the process of creating them, April 17 at 8 p.m.

In a press release, Brown called the seminars an opportunity “to seek advice, look for suggestions, or simply become a better collaborator and songwriter.”

He said that once he adjusts the content of the seminar to the needs of those attending. “All questions get answered, all topics get discussed and everyone gets a chance to present their very own material. The room becomes a safe haven for all their thoughts and ideas.”

Brown was formerly a member of the Shore-based bands Mr. Reality, Samhill and Highway 9; all released albums on major labels. In recent years, he has worked with many younger artists, including Jessie James Decker, Jackson Harris, Natalie Stovall, Corey Wagar, Audrey Kate, Audra McLaughlin and Lo Kloza.

From 2003 to 2010, Gordon was one of the people behind the Writers in the Raw, an “in the round” acoustic concert series presented at the Basie as well as other venues such as Harry’s Roadhouse in Asbury Park, the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville and the Pollak Theatre at Monmouth University in West Long Branch.

To sign up for the seminars, call Susan Brennan at (732) 224-8778, ext. 125.
