Citing concern over the safety of its patrons, the State Theatre in New Brunswick has cancelled a Nov. 3 show by comedian Kathy Griffin.

Griffin’s decision to pose with a bloody representation of President Trump’s head, as if he had been decapitated, has been met with widespread and often virulent criticism.

“After careful consideration of recent events and for the safety of our patrons, Kathy Griffin’s November 3rd performance has been cancelled,” reads a message on the venue’s web site that was also posted on its Facebook account. All ticket holders will be issued a complete refund.

Griffin’s Nov. 2 show at the St. George Theatre in Staten Island has also been cancelled. According to a statement shared on Facebook, “Ms. Griffin’s recent actions have severely inhibited our ability to fulfill our mission as a non-profit theatre serving the Staten Island community.”

(June 2 Update: Griffin’s show at BergenPAC in Englewood on Nov. 4 is cancelled as well.)

Griffin has apologized for the photo, but she still was fired from her annual gig hosting a New Year’s Eve show on CNN.
